The new Swedish National Arena has a capacity of 50 000 during football games. The bowl, pitch and media and players areas were designed in close cooperation with the Swedish FA to accommodate football to international standards.
The bowl consists of three partly overlapping tiers. This ensures that all spectators have maximum proximity to the pitch, creating an intense and exciting atmosphere. The sliding roof allows play in comfortable conditions all year around.
Friends Arena is a multi-purpose arena that can host a wide variety of events, including concerts, motorsports and corporate events. The crowd capacity can be raised to 65 000 people for concerts. The sliding roof allows full control of the weather and wind as well as the acoustics within the arena. The roof can hold up to 350 tonnes of rigging for sound systems, lighting, video screens and any other equipment required.
Fast changes between events are made possible by the advanced logistics of the arena, such as the indoor street for trucks and buses, ensuring optimal utilisation of the arena. Great care has been taken in finding effective and flexible operational solutions for everything from rigging to possible scene allocations.
The exterior facade is composed of perforated aluminium sheets in a triangular pattern with a relief that will make it change in appearance with the weather, time of day and season. At night the inner facade will be lit in a multitude of colours by LCD lighting controlled by a computer system.
